Disease Symptoms / Clinical Signs
Disease Description Fracture of the distal phalanx is relatively common in adult cattle. Onset of lameness is rapid, and the pain is usually severe. If the medial digit is involved, the animal may seek relief from the pain by crossing its legs. Natural recovery is prolonged, and because most such fractures extend into the distal interphalangeal joint, a debilitating arthritis may develop at the fracture site. If treatment is undertaken, the sound digit should be elevated on a wooden block and the affected digit immobilized in a flexed position to the block using methyl methacrylate adhesive. https://www.msdvetmanual.com/musculoskeletal-system/lameness-in-cattle/fractures-in-cattle

Precautions
Procedure of Use In case of fracture of bones in animals, Arvindbhai Patel takes 200 gram dhaman (Grewia tiliaefolia) roots and mixes it with sesame (Sesamum indicum) oil. The roots in oil are then crused. A little water is added and the mixture boiled. It is allowed to cool to room temperature and filtered. Every day 100 millilitres of the filtrate is drenched to the animal twice. This treatment is given for 15 days till the bones are joined again. This is a traditional method used by many villagers in Bharuch district.
