The health benefits of ghee can be categorized as, those that are obtained from consuming ghee as a food and those that are obtained by using ghee as a medicine. Ghee is a carrier of fat-soluble vitamins, A, D, E and K, which our body needs in very small quantities but cannot make for itself. These vitamins perform many essential functions. Similarly, the essential fatty acids, which cannot be synthesized in our body, are also supplied by ghee. Ghee is good for growth of all the seven dhatus in the body (body fluids, blood, flesh, fat, bones, marrow and semen). Calving is a natural process which normally takes place without help. Close observation is required in case the cow has difficulties. Cows calving for the first time (heifers) tend to have more problems than older cows and therefore need more attention when calving. Calving pointers: Understanding calving pointers helps the farmer to identify when the animal requires veterinary attention. The calving pointers can be divided into 3 stages: (i) Pre-calving pointers (24 hours before calving) (ii) Calving and (iii) Expulsion of placenta. | Procedure of Use |
"As informed by Rasulbhai, sometimes there is a possibility that the animal may die if difficulty is experienced in parturition, especially in cows and buffaloes. Sometimes difficulty in parturition may even prove fatal for the affected animal. To avoid difficulty in parturition, use of ghee (clarified butter) is beneficial. Administer 100 grammes of ghee (clarified butter), twice a day to the pregnant animal for 10 days. Due to this treatment normal parturition occurs and the animal does not experience any kind of difficulty. According to the farmers the animal not only gets nutrition from this treatment but its strength also increases." |

| Global Context |
Parturition is one of the most important events for the farmers as by this act of his animal he would derive gain in terms of milk or sale of animal and its progeny. Most domestic animals are prone to maximum injuries and infections, some of them endangering the life of the fetus and the dam immediately, and some of them affecting the future productive and reproductive life of the mother. Therefore, due care must be exercised in advance and sufficient vigilance must be kept during parturition to minimize parturient problems.
