Disease Symptoms / Clinical Signs In superficial abscess: the appearance of localised, painful and inflammatory swelling. Febrile disturbances are usually absent in superficial abscess.
Disease Description An abscess is a circumscribed area of inflammation or an abdominal cavity that contains pus if matured
Disease Control Control of animal, clipping and shaving of affected site, washing with antiseptic such as iodine or povidone iodine
Disease Prevention Ensuring that skin of animal is clean, healthy and largely free of bacteria can help reduce the risk of skin abscesses developing. Also reduce the risk of bacteria spreading by: washing of body of animal regularly.
Precautions
Procedure of Use To treat abscess or wound of an animal, Parmabhai Vankar of district Panchmahals uses the locally available leaves of "karkariyu" plant. He collects 200 gram leaves, pounds these on a stone and extracts juice. This juice is diluted in 50 millilitre water and applied on the abscess or wounds. This heals the abscess or wound.
Etiology Causative Agent The main cause of abscess are pyogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Actinomyces bovis, Actinobacillus lignieresi
