Towards this end, one such farmer, Ramjibhai Kalabhai, has made a small effort to assuage the misery of farm animals in drought conditions. Since these conditions necessarily entail that there is shortage of fodder supply, Ramjibhai of the parched Saurashtra region has decided to fall back on a traditional practice of making good use of sticks of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) after the harvest is over. He cuts the cotton stem into small pieces and soaks these in water. He sprinkles salt and jaggery water or molasses on the soaked cotton sticks. It will virtually be a tidbit for farm animals that will surely feast on the cotton feed in the circumstances. |
